WHO AM I?
Shirley E. Daley, DTM
My name is Shirley E. Daley and I am running for the position of International Director, Region 7.
I am an Educator and Branch Manager at Chancellor Insurance Agency, Jamaica with a third career as a volunteer.
I believe that my life’s purpose continues to unfold through my journey in the Toastmasters movement. This journey began in October 1989 when I received the Dale Carnegie book – The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking from my branch manager, Tony Williamson at Life of Jamaica.
He wrote in it, “May this little book help you to tap your vast potential as a public speaker.”
In early 1990, I attended my first Meeting at the then Life of Jamaica Toastmasters Club, now Sagicor Group Jamaica and have never looked back.
In 1991, I met the late Justice Courtenay Orr who introduced Toastmasters to Jamaica. He had a dream for the Caribbean to become a District and its realization began in February 2003 when with the determination and commitment of an energetic team, the Caribbean Territorial Council of Toastmasters , now District 81 was born. I was the first Council Governor Education and Training.
While building the Caribbean Council into District 81, we learned the meaning of cultural diversity, equity and adaptability through mutual respect and hard work.
In 2005 I took my first role with the District 81 Executive Committee, which brought me to my service as the District Governor 2010-2011.
From 2022 to 2023, I served as a Region Advisor.
I continue to serve my District, different regions and the international community by mentoring, coaching officers and members, attending and making presentations at our Conferences and other events.
Through Toastmasters, I am becoming a good global corporate citizen.
Why do I want to serve as an International Director?
I desire to serve as an International Director because that next step represents the very spirit of Toastmasters which is growth and development of individuals. This is my true story, having served with excellence at various levels and roles in the organization locally, and regionally.
I believe, I have garnered a deep understanding of and appreciation for the vision, mission and values of Toastmasters and I would like to bring this knowledge to bear on the future of the organization at the international level.
My Vision
Toastmasters International communication and leadership tools advancing the personal and professional lives of individuals within their communities and strengthening management systems across countries and cultures
